The mills

Via del sale The mills are a feature of Trapani. In fact, we can find many mills in the path that goes from Trapani to Marsala is called " VIA DEL SALE " ; along the way we admire heaps of salt covered with terracotta tiles and that sparkle in the sun.

What are the windmills ? The mill has allowed to solve some important problems of human civilization : the processing of agricultural products, lifting water, irrigation and operation of machines. More recently, its evolution has allowed to build machines with rotating blades for wind energy production. The mill is of two types : water and wind. It harnesses the power of these two elements to move gears, often complex which create mechanical energy

Structure of the mills By the term " mill " normally includes not only the mill, but the entire grinding plant. Which it is made up of several machines that can be summarized in several categories : machines for the cleaning of grain machinery for the humidification and rest, also called conditioning. machinery used in the milling industry proper. machines used to sieve the ground to separate the flour from the bran, bran and germ. storage of the flour in special cells Farinière calls. machines used for the packaging in bags, the size of the bags normally are 25 kg, 5 kg, 1 kg and 0.5 kg. Industrial installations are complex structures many structured on several levels, in order to exploit the effect of the product from a fall to the next machine.

THE MILLS EXCELSIOR Built in the early 900 is an industrial architecture of great historical value where you worked not only the grain Agro Erice, but imported from abroad. No longer active since the 70's is going to be turned into a museum
