IWRM Is a process which promotes the co-ordinated development and management of water, land and related resources, in order to maximize the resultant economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems – IWRM is a concept and a process (it is NOT a scheme!) – IWRM looks at the quantity and quality of available water resources (surface and groundwater), in an integrated manner – IWRM involves integrated planning and management of all water related sectors of government – IWRM is inclusive and participatory, involving all water users and uses. – IWRM can be done at ‘local’ level as well 8
