Presentation transcript:

Environment problems

Energy Oil ends in years Natural gas ends in 60 years Coal ends in 200 years Alternatives: anaerobic digestion, geothermal power, wind power, hydraulic power, solar power, biomass power, tidal power, nuclear power Pakri wind park

Estonian energy Problem: Over 90% based on oil shale, which will soon end Solution: green energy or nuclear power

Recycling - why? Each year in the European Union alone we throw away 1.3 billion tonnes of waste 1 recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours. 70% less energy is required to recycle paper compared with making it from raw materials. Up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the dustbin could be recycled. 9 out of 10 people would recycle more if it were made easier.

Recycling - how ? Sort your garbage. Refuse of junk mail. Don't print out everything or print on both sides of pages. Use plastic bags twice or even better- use paper or clothing bag. Redesign your old clothes. Repair and wash instead of buying new thing. Give your old things to charity. Use batteries, that can be charged again.

Transport Cars produce CO 2, which causes global warming We should: Use public transport Walk or drive with bicycles Governments: lower tickets prizes bicycle roads Project „Käi jala!'' –Walking competition; 4 weeks in every spring and autumn

Project "Energiasäästlik kool" How can we save energy in school? No dropping water tap Put out lights in hallways while classes We also checked, if enlightenment is correct in classes (it wasn’t)‏ Schools use a lot of unneeded energy (ex. Lights are on for no one)

Project «Teeme ära 2008» 3rd May 2008 Cleaning garbage from public places, forests etc voluntaries all over Estonia Over tons of garbage was collected

Care for our planet! It's the only one we have!
