Balance Contrast Emphasis Movement Pattern Rhythm Unity Demonstrates being able to organize the elements of art in a piece of art.

Three kinds: Symmetrical Asymmetrical Radial Balance is the arrangement of the elements in the photo to create an equal placement of visual weight throughout the image.

A type of balance that results when both sides of an artwork are the same or mirror one another.

The type of balance that results when two sides of an artwork are equally important but one side looks different from the other. The rule of thirds is a useful tip in asymmetrical photography.

Now we can see how the Principles of Art work within the world of photography, but how can we use them in our everyday lives?

This is a yellow-page ad for a lawn care company. The ad is balanced, but it’s dull and doesn’t grab a reader’s attention. By using the Principles of Design, how can you improve this ad?

What makes the new ad more effective? How did the Principles of Design help?

You can take photographs of your home, your pets, your siblings, even your favorite pair of shoes. With unique camera angles, you could make something boring and bland into something unique and interesting. You can use photography to capture your favorite moments, recreate your favorite memories, or take a snapshot of something you think looks cool. Landscapes, people, fashion, architecture, wildlife…the possibilities are endless.

SHOWN ABOVE IS THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF JUST UNDER 24,000 PEOPLE TAKEN IN SEPTEMBER 2009.
