Young Design Programme Redhill School NCN Sorrel Foundation.
Performing Arts School? In October 2007, Redhill School became a specialist Performing Arts College. This means that Redhill is able to continue the excellent high- profile in the arts, including; music tours abroad, development of new courses for students at Redhill as well as working with local primary schools on drama, dance and music projects. We may be proudly labelled as a Performing Arts College But… Does Redhill have the qualities of a successful Performing Arts School?
Problem 1: The Main Hall The Main Hall gives visitors, parents and future pupils their first impression of Redhill, therefore we feel that, as a Performing Arts School, this area should be changed so that every visitor leaves with a positive first impression of Redhill. We use the Hall for: Lower school assemblies, Exams, Presentation Evenings, Shows and Productions as well as lessons and parent evenings. Therefore the Main Hall should be a place that lets people know that we are proud to be here.
What’s wrong with the Hall?
The Potential!
Limitations Our Biggest limitation in this project is money Therefore this means that we cannot have: A New Stage A New Build or Extending the building And of course… No new teachers!!!
Problem 2:Music Rooms Limited Space Cluttered N o t m a n y p r a c t i s e r o o m s. L a y o u t Decoration Storage Ugly Cell-like practice environment Miserable
The Potential As there are disruptions to lessons we would like a new layout so rooms can be accessed easily without disruptions to lessons. More areas for music practise. Technology and other facilities to be spread more evenly around the department. More storage for the instruments. For the music department to be more ‘up to date’ with its image.
School Budget, there is a certain amount of money for this department as we are a performing arts school. No new build. Limited to the amount of internal building: can include making new entrances to rooms. Limitations
Signage We would also like you to design us a sign for these two areas which need improving. This design could also be used around other areas of the school as a form of corporate identity for the whole school.
