It looks small doesn't it, but in fact it is quite big: 780,000 sq. km. Also it has 69 million inhabitants and is surrounded on its three sides by the sea.

Here is a map of Turkey. It shows the neighbouring countries. Turkey is located in southwestern Asia bordering the Black Sea, between Bulgaria and Georgia,and bordering the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, between Greece and Syria. The numbers represent the seven different regions of Turkey.

Climate Marmara / Aegean / Mediterranean coasts: These coasts have a typical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. Black Sea Coast: It has temperate climate with warm summers, mild winters with rain. Central Anatolia and Eastern Anatolia: It has long snowy, cold winters with mild summers The climate in Turkey becomes hot in summers and it makes life and economic activities easy. It increases the variety of plants, agricultural life, stock-breeding, industry, trade and tourism.

Turkey is a big and respectively green country as opposed to what many people may think. It has amazing geography that boasts sea, mountains, rivers and volcanoes.

The highest mountain of Turkey is the Mount AĞRI in the east, on which Noah's Ark is believed to be,and it is not far from the Lake Van, the biggest lake of the country.

Turks originated from northeastern Asia, specifically the Altai mountains and Mongolia. The Seljuck Empire was the first Turkish Empire in Anatolia. After the decline of the Seljucks' influence, Anatolia fragmented into a number of small states. The Ottoman Turks unified these separate units. The Ottomans ruled for more than six centuries ( ) Upon the decline of the Ottoman Empire, a young man named Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a highly respected army general from World War I, led the Turkish people in their War of Independence ( ) against the allied occupiers. It was the first war of national liberation in this century. And, Atatürk founded the Republic of Turkey on October 29, 1923.He led his country into peace and stability, with tremendous economic growth and complete modernization.

The Republic of Turkey is based on secular, democratic, pluralistic and parliamentary system. Turkey is a founding member of NATO and OECD and a member of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization and the European Council. Currently, Turkey is a candidate for European Union membership.
