Genesis 28:12
Isaac had two sons. Isaac’s first son was Esau and his second son was Jacob. Between these two, Jacob’s faith was greater than Esau’s. God chose Jacob over Esau, because of Jacob’s faith. We should have great faith like Jacob’s faith.
Jacob had Hope in God. Jacob and Esau were twins. Even though they were twins, they were quite different people. They were not identical twins but fraternal twins.
The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was a quiet man, staying among the tents.
Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob. Amen.
Esau became a skillful hunter while Jacob stayed at home. Jacob loved to help his mother and loved to cook. Isaac loved Esau and Rebekah loved Jacob. Why did Isaac love Esau more than Jacob? Isaac projected his dream into Esau. Sometimes we project our dreams into our children. Our children are not tools used to fulfill parent’s dreams.
Jacob was the younger brother. How did he become the Father of Faith? Jacob was able to become the Father of Faith because he had faith in God. Esau did not have hope in God like Jacob did. Even though Jacob made mistakes in his life, God chose him because he had hope in God. I hope you also have hope in God.
Jacob had praying parents. Jacob tricked his father when he was around 77 years old. Rebekah told Jacob to flee after tricking his father. Esau was very mad and angry. He also wanted revenge to Jacob.
When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. Amen.
Jacob was scared when he ran away. He was frightened because of three reasons. He could be caught by his brother, Esau, or meet a robber, or meet a wild animal and get eaten alive. He slept on a rock. This proves that he had nothing but a stick.
㉡또는 ' 사닥다리 ' He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Amen.
Jacob had a wonderful dream at Bethel. He dreamed a stairway leading to heaven and angels going up and down. God said something at the top of the stairway.
There above it stood the LORD, and he said : "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Amen.
There were no reason for God to bless Jacob. Why was Jacob blessed? He was blessed because of his parent’s prayers. When parents believe in God well, their children get blessed. I hope that you become a devoted parent who gets their children blessed through their prayers.
Jacob Made a Pledge Prayer. Do you make a lot of promises? If you do make a lot of promises, the people you make promises with are usually people that you have good relationships with. More promises, better relationships.
Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father's house,
아멘. then the LORD will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.“ Amen.
"If God will~, I will ~“ 위기서원 / 감사서원 Jacob was so desperate that he made a pledge prayer with God. In Leviticus 27, it explains the pledge prayer. It is the conclusion and the last chapter of Leviticus. The pledge prayer is something that God thinks preciously. The pledge prayer should not be abused, but when times come, we should be able to make a pledge prayer.
A Decon’s Pledge Prayer Do you know “Sachal Deacon”? It is a person who cleans and keeps maintenance of a church. There was a very devoted sachal deacon in a church. He had his own business before he became a sachal deacon. The business was very successful. He fell off a cliff. He prayed when he fell. He prayed that if he did live, he would serve God for ten years. He survived and became a sachal deacon.
I became a pastor through my mother’s pledge prayer. Are you a person that makes promises with God? We should be able to make promises with God and keep them. Through this promise, our faith could become stronger. I hope you make a promise with God.
