Curriculum Night Walled Lake Central High School September 28, 2015
College and “real world” prep Emphasis on practical skills, social issues Shakespeare (Othello) Variable reading homework Students should be annotating texts/taking notes Class discussion and participation Emphasis on MLA format Frequent projects, writing, and technology use ◦ Please let me know if access to the internet and/or computer use is difficult for your student! We do have alternatives for some projects and assignments.
The Novel Reading List is available on my website—students should already have chosen and obtained their first book One novel per semester Ten favorite poems by ten different poets read by approximately halfway through second semester (recorded in Writer’s Notebooks); firm due date to be determined
Students should not be using cell phones, iPods, or other technology during class time unless given express and direct permission, generally for a specific academically-related reason. Please contact the front office if you need to contact your son or daughter during the school day. Students who are late to school need to have proper documentation (i.e. doctor’s note) to be considered excused rather than marked tardy. Sets of four tardies to a particular class will result in detentions and escalating consequences.
BEST option is School website is an excellent resource for keeping track of upcoming assignments and accessing handouts and other resources: onk/apt4.aspx/ onk/apt4.aspx/ Usually at school by 6:45 at the latest, can come in earlier if necessary; available after school on most days Happy to meet with students and/or parents one-on-one by arrangement Parent-Teacher Conferences will be on Monday, November 2, 2015
