 Earlier computers had a harder time installing system software than modern computers.  Today manufactures have made it easier to install new applications and other software.  Manufactures (such as DELL©)preload most of their computers with the Windows operating system.

 An operating system contains programs that direct a computers operations and programs that mange the computers internal and external components.  Installing an OS: w/ your computer turned off, insert the CD-ROM (Containing the OS) into the CD or CD/DVD drive (At front). Turn on computer, the system should be searching, now the instillation instructions will appear on the screen and follow what is instructed on the screen.

 Click start and click computer  Double click the drive icon in which the CD or DVD is inserted.  If those steps doo not work follow the following:  From the computer window, right click the drive icon for the CD or DVD and choose EXPLORE.  Double click setup.exe or Install.exe. If these files are not present, consult the documentation for the application to determine the name of the setup program file, and double click on that file name.

 Peripherals are the basic components of your PC, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and maybe a printer.  They are called this because, they are external to the system unit.

 Everything on your computer (including printers) must have an associated driver program.  A driver controls the device, translating commands between the device and programs.  A file name of a driver designed for use in a Windows environment often has a DRV file extension. (DRV: driver)

 A basic description of how all the devices inside the mother board (system unit) all work together.  One  Two  Three  Four  And five

 Before installing any device follow these:  Turn off your computer and all other devices.  Ground yourself from touching any unpainted metal surface at the back of your computer (system unit) before touching anything inside the computer.  Unplug he power cable to your computer and then press the power button to ground the system board.  Disconnect all devices connected to the computer, including monitor.

 Study carefully the printed instructions and illustrations that came in the package along with DIMM module. The illustrations or diagrams identify the slot where you will insert the module.  With the system unit panel removed, locate the slot where you will insert the module. Select an empty slot.  Match the orientation of the DIMM module with the slot.  Firmly press the DIMM module straight down into the slot, until clips.
