Isaiah 9: “For to us a child is born to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end.”
Isaiah 11: 1-5 Like the earlier Isaiah prophecy about the Messiah, this one speaks further about the integrity and righteousness of Jesus…our Wonderful Counselor.
Psalm 16:7 “I will praise the L ORD, who counsels me” Psalm 73:24 “You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory.”
John 14: “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Luke 2: Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to mankind on whom His favor rests.”
Zechariah 9:10 “I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war-horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.”
Luke 2: …“This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
Throughout Matthew 10, Jesus gives His “marching orders” to His apostles before their first evangelistic trip…preaching the Good News of the Gospel in His Name. Doing so (and continuing to follow Him) will become increasingly unpopular, leading to rejection and persecution.
Ephesians 2: Jesus Christ is more than just our Peacemaker. He IS our peace! By Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection; we have access to all that we need to have peace with God and others.
