Survival of affected individuals was similar in Families DT, DB and MI (data not shown). Survival data were combined and plotted for all 21 affected members of these three families. Survival of patients with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy due to the alpha-tropomyosin mutation Asp175Asn was similar to that observed in familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy due to the beta cardiac myosin heavy chain mutation Val606Met, and significantly better than survival with the beta cardiac myosin heavy chain mutation Arg403Gln or cardiac troponin T Arg92Gln mutation (p < and p < 0.003, respectively).
