Purple Robe Created by: Henri Matisse 1937 Presentation by: Gabby G. Created by: Henri Matisse 1937 Presentation by: Gabby G.
Description In the “Purple Robe”, there are many different colors and shades of colors. Many of the colors are surrounding each other and making the piece of art has a very bright sense of colors. This is a very exciting piece and a very detailed piece of art. There are many different types of lines throughout the whole piece. On each wall and section of the floor, a new type of line, and different colors appear. There is barely any empty space throughout the whole piece because of all of the details added to it. There were lines put wherever there was empty space. In the table and on the vase, you can see indentations and bumps. The robe looks like it is made out of a velvety-like material. There are many different shapes throughout the whole piece of art.
Media The purple robe was created with oil paint. It was one of Matisse’s final oil paintings.
Analysis Based on the robe and the flowers, it looks windy or the woman was just moving. There is a lot of space taken up, making it a little too crowded. The artist added too many details, and it is very confusing to follow along and look at everything.
Interpretation The piece of art looks like the artist was happy when they created it. Based on the colors and details, it looks like the artist was in a weird place when he created the painting. I think that this piece of art is about a woman who just woke up, put on her robe, and went to her balcony. She looks like she was sitting outside, and enjoying how peaceful and beautiful it was out there.
Evaluation In my opinion, there are too many details and colors. This piece of art is a little too crowded and colorful. The artist should lighten some of the colors and take away some of the lines on the walls and floors. It is a little too much to take on and look at for some people.
