Real Consequences

Defined "Major offenses of academic dishonesty or plagiarism are considered more serious and thus shall be dealt with more severely. In general, major offenses include, but are limited to, incidents involving academic dishonesty or plagiarism in which a student copies the homework of another student; a student knowingly provides his/her work to another student; a student knowingly provides his/her work to another student for that student’s submission; a student fails to put away unauthorized notes, devices or materials during an examination; a student obtains another student’s paper and represents as one’s own; a student gains unauthorized access to a teacher’s examination; a student alters a teacher’s gradebook; or a student shares test answers with another student."

How do we avoid it? Keep track of the web sites you use to assist yourself in your work Just URLs are just fine Take pride in what you submit – high school provides a great opportunity for you to grow as a person and an intellectual If you provide someone else’s work, how do we know what you can do? Even if you change the words, if the IDEA is someone else’s, it’s still plagiarism!

Facts 167% of students HATE to cite in their papers They give the arrested American tourist in Europe excuse: “I…just…didn’t…know…I…was… doing…something…wrong” Reasons students hate citing? Laziness Last minute rushing Laziness Truly not knowing Laziness

However… Microsoft™ is in your head (deal with it) Word 07 and later editions have a reference and citation function that is so easy a freshman can use it Once you enter information concerning your source, it will automatically create an in-text citation and bibliographic page (or References or Works Cited)

Let’s Try It! Creating References Microsoft Reference function is accessible from the reference tab.

Still Trying It… Word 07 and later comes with a list of default referencing styles. Choose the referencing style that you want to use:

Still Trying… Click on the “Insert Citation” button to open the “add citation” window.

Still Trying… Word allows you to add different source types such as “Journal Article” for your essay.

Still Trying… Click on the “Insert Citation” button to view a list of your citations and click any of them to create an in-text citation in your essay:

Still Trying… You can create a bibliography, “References”, or “Works Cited” page by clicking the “Bibliography” button:
