Objectives Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to: List the six major areas of faculty development (FD) as well as some sub-topics that can be covered in a brief format. Give examples of some topics conducive to these 10- minute presentations. Identify ways to include brief FD presentations into their own program schedules.

Thank you to Ventura Family Medicine Residency Program

Why 10 minute Faculty Development mini-sessions work Widespread participation of all faculty Dedicated recurring time Becomes priority and common Better understanding of/appreciation for each other Self-analysis and self-disclosure Stimulating, step outside comfort zone Think Brain Rules, by John Medina

Challenges of 10 minute Faculty Development Different needs of faculty Competing priorities Time constraints Minimal prior training Keeping resources updated for future access Perceived or real lack of institutional support

Summary The six major areas of Faculty Development provide a guide for structuring faculty development mini-sessions in a residency program. There are many FD topics that are conducive to 10-minute presentations. Brief FD presentations can be easily incorporated into faculty schedules.
