What is a Google Lit Trip? n It combines literary road trips with the interactive technology and satellite imagery of Google Earth. n Created by Jerome Burg, an English teacher at Granada High School in Livermore, California. n The Google Lit Trip site, contains over 30 lit trips that can be downloaded for use in your classroom.

Characteristics of a Lit Trip: n Each lit trip is an interactive multimedia experience created in Google Earth and saved as a Google Earth.kmz file. n Readers virtually follow along with a character(s) geographic journey. n Key places in the story are marked in Google Earth with placemarks. n Placemarks can contain text, images, links to websites, and links to UnitedStreaming video.

Advantages to using Google Lit Trips: n "It puts the kids right in the middle of the story” (Jerome Burg). n Allows the students to connect the content of a story with place and time. n Encourages the students to go beyond simple plot summaries to connecting the story to issues affecting their own lives.
