3D Animation 1. Introduction Dr. Ashraf Y. Maghari Information Technology Islamic University of Gaza Ref. Book: The Art of Maya

3D Animation New world can be imagined Motion through movement of sequence of drawings, painting, photographs or rendered images. Digital characters and sets can now be built and animated, then presented in different media formats such as film, video and interactive games. 2

3D Computer Animation 3 Animated Short Films: For young animators and students to begin Broadcast: animation a flying logo (advertising) Feature Films Pixar’s Toy Story: first feature-length animation that used 3D exclusively for characters and sets.

3D Computer Animation 4 Interactive Video Games Game artwork is becoming more sophisticated with complex 3D models, texture maps, lighting and even dynamics. Visual Effects: Smoke, fire and exploding objects can now be simulated within the safety of a computer. Visualization and Web Some fields require 3D computer graphics to produce highly realistic images. 3D visualization on the internet is emerging as an important tool for many companies.

Technical Creativity 5 Work with shape, form, motion, color and texture. How the computer interprets all of these elements. To master computer animation, you must have a balance of artistic and technical skills. Transferring Traditional Skills Drawing and Sketching Observe and record the three-dimensional world. Create storyboards (قصص مصورة) and character sketches Cel Animation Squash and stretch, anticipation (توقع), overlapping action and follow through

Technical Creativity 6 Painting Maya: texture maps, position lights and compose scenes. Cinematography Use real world techniques when setting up (CG lights and camera)..Live actions Photography Lighting, camera effects (key lights, focal length and depth of field), framing scenes. Architecture

The Animation Pipeline 7 Different Stages for final animated 3D Modeling Animating. Rendering Each stage is a full area of study. It is useful to be familiar with all stages. You can focus on only one area later on. The animation pipeline can be summarized in seven stages: lights and camerasmodeling effectsCharacters rendering and compositinganimation materials and textures

The Animation Pipeline 8 Modeling The stage of building the geometry (objects and characters) Describes the position and shape of the models.

The Animation Pipeline 9 Characters Characters are models that use special controls such as: 1.skeleton joints 2.inverse kinematics

The Animation Pipeline 10 Animation By changing its position or shape over time, you bring it to life. The timing can then be used to create very specific motion

The Animation Pipeline 11 Materials and Texture For object rendering, it must be given material attributes that define how it will be shaded by light. Texture can also be added to bring detail and visual richness to the surfaces.

The Animation Pipeline 12 Lights and Cameras As movie, you must set up lights and cameras to illuminate and frame objects. You can then animate both the lights and the camera.

The Animation Pipeline 13 Effects Effects: fire, fields of grass and glowing lights. Can’t be easily represented using models and textures.

The Animation Pipeline 14 Rendering and Compositing Once all the scene’s parts are ready you can: Render a single image or a sequence of images. Render objects separately. Bring them back together in 2D using a compositing system.
