Se7en OTS Analysis Luke Poore

Mise en Scene Images of books conveys that this character is clever and literate but still the audience are left questioning his role in the film. Shots of sharp objects e.g. razors blades, scissors suggest that this is the antagonist because sharp objects are associated with violence and death. The fact he is recording what he is doing suggests that he is enjoying what he is doing which is still unknown to the audience.

Mise en Scene A montage of him cutting portrays an idea that he is working on something this suggests that he is a focused and purposeful individual. In these shots it shows text being redacted to delete/remove things this conveys the idea that this character wants to remove and/or destroy things. Images of death and pain gives off a strong idea that this is the films antagonist as that is usually what they are associated with. Also the fact that it is quite a gruesome picture suggests that the film will be similar with disturbing images.

Cinematography Out of focus shot is deliberate to convey the idea that this characters identity is hidden to the audience this create mystery around him which will unsettle the audience. This image is obscured to show that this character has been writing for a long time this gives the impression that this is part of the character routine in day by day life. Also jump cuts are used to show flashing images these are common throughout this OTS. These are the names of cast/crew members but the text used is almost handwritten but slightly un-ordinary as the writing but is not straight and weird looking this is a convention of a thriller ; a ordinary place but something is wrong with it just like this text used.

Sound The non-diegetic music used throughout the opening title sounds very scratchy and disjointed this evokes feelings of discomfort and shows that the film is going to be quite gory solely based on the music in the opening scene.
