Why was England the first country to industrialize?

First, a definition: Industrialization: the process of developing machine production of goods

Quick Review. What does a country need to industrialize? Land Labor Capital Entrepreneurs + Political Stability Land Labor Capital Entrepreneurs + Political Stability

So, why was England the first country to industrialize?

Reason #1: LAND (natural resources!)

There are many rivers in England… Rivers gave: 1) Power source for factories 2) Navigable areas for boats (trade!) Rivers gave: 1) Power source for factories 2) Navigable areas for boats (trade!) Reason #1: LAND

There are many rivers and canals in England… Provided transportation internally!

There were many coal fields in England… Coal was burned to provide power for steam-driven machines

There was a lot of iron ore in England… Iron ore was used to construct machines, tools, and buildings

Conclusion : England had a TON of natural resources, which enabled it to be the first country to industrialize. Reason #1: LAND

Other factors also made England the perfect place for the Industrial Revolution to start.

Reason #2: LABOR Because of the agricultural revolution  more food was produced  which meant England had a BOOMING population More people  lots of workers in factories!!!!! Reason #3: Capital ($$$) Government of England had a highly developed banking system –  This meant that British banks gave LOANS to people for their new machineries  allowed businesses and factories to GROW! Reason #4: POLITICAL STABILITY During this time, there were no wars or revolutions happening in England!  it was a peaceful country Also, the government encouraged the industries by improving the infrastructure (buildings, roads, etc…) Finally, Britain had a STRONG navy and military that protected the country and economy!
