CORE COMPETENCY #3 Apply critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgments

Description of characteristic knowledge, values, skills Social workers are knowledgeable about the principles of logic, scientific inquiry, and reasoned discernment. They use critical thinking augmented by creativity and curiosity. Critical thinking also requires the synthesis and communication of relevant information.

Generalist Practice Behavior 3.1 Distinguish, appraise, and integrate multiple sources of knowledge, including research-based knowledge, and practice wisdom. Example: Attending grade level meetings to asses student academic progress. We will discuss the use of reading 3D, to test for reading fluency, the ability to segment phonemes, the ability to read nonsense words such as (zat) it doesn’t make sense but kids should have knowledge of each individual sound in order to read it, word recognition and book of interventions. We will also use the wisdom and knowledge from past experiences of teaching students.

Generalist Practice Behavior 3.2 Analyze models of assessment, prevention, intervention, and evaluation. Example: Review the assessment, prevention, intervention and evaluation models to ensure students are getting the maximum academic or social success possible. These instruments will be used to identify causes, key factors, and possible results.

Generalist Practice Behavior 3.3 Demonstrate effective oral and written communication in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and colleagues. Example: Student/parent conferences and sending home letters to parents of students who have tardy/attendance issues. Collaborate with Inasmuch organization to restart the delivery of weekend snack bags for students. Attend monthly staff meetings and weekly grade level meetings.
