TASEL-M Orange Cluster: A Professional Learning Community (PLC) of Orange High School Mathematics teachers, colleagues from feeder schools, Special Education specialists, English Learner support staff and CSU Fullerton.

To improve mathematics achievement through deep analysis of school data To improve teachers’ mathematics knowledge and best practices to deepen student understanding and retention of mathematics To affect teachers’ instruction to reflect increased pedagogical content knowledge. To establish on-going collaborative communities which review data for program and instruction decisions TASEL-M: Vision and Commitment

TASEL-M PLC Process: Engage teachers to work collaboratively to –identify essential concepts and prerequisite understanding –identify skills in the STANDARDS that need work E ncourage – paradigm shift in mathematics teaching environment – teachers to focus on student learning Establish ongoing mathematics education partnerships with –Orange County Dept. of Education –Cal State University, Fullerton

Collaborative Team Activity Scenario: You are a team of Algebra I teachers who are working together to develop a unit on content standard 5.0. As a professional learning community please discuss and establish common agreements on the following: Divide the participants into teams of 3-4 teachers 1. What are the essential ideas of the content standard 2. How much time will be allotted for the unit 3. What strategies will be used to teach the content 4. What type of assessment tool will be created to test student understanding

Content Standard 5.0 Students solve multi-step problems, including word problems, involving linear equations and linear inequalities in one variable and provide justification for each step.

Collaborative Team Activity Scenario: You are a team of Algebra I teachers who are working together to develop common agreements on your grading policies. Please discuss and come to an agreement as a team as what % you will give to each of the following areas: Divide the participants into teams of 4 – 6 teachers 1. Participation in class 2. Homework 3. Tests/Quizzes 4. Projects The total sum must be 100%
