Does fresh mint cool things down or is it merely a sensation?

 The purpose of this project is to determine if mint can cool things down or is it merely a se nsati on.

 The group and I hypothesize that mint can cool things down in temperature.

 30 fresh mint leaves  mL cups  Spark thermometer/sensor plug  600 mL water

 Manipulated/Independent: mint leaves  Responding/Dependent: water temperature  Constant: Amount of water, size of cup, method of measuring of water temperature

 Fill one 88.7 mL cup with 60 mL of room temperature water.  Record temperature with Spark thermometer.  Add 6 mint leaves to the cup of water.  Wait 10 minutes.  Record temperature with the Spark thermometer.  Repeat steps 1-5 for four more trials.

 Our hypothesis was incorrect. Fresh mint doesn’t cool water down in temperature. It makes the water WARMER!!! Our water average was degrees Celsius. Our mint water average was degrees Celsius. The mint water was warmer by.08 degrees
