Business & Tourism Partnership Training Session Inari THE LOCAL FEDERATION OF EAST LAPLAND

Introduction  This project is a development project - concentrating in fostering cross border economic cooperation in two key sectors, which both are very important for its target area- tourism and supporting services for mining.

Project area, main partners, and target groups  Inari  Kemijärvi  Kirovsk

Main Objective  The main purpose is to establish a dynamic cross border economic activity partnership area by creating a functioning network of entrepreneurs and companies in two key industries: tourism and supporting services for mining.  in tourism sector investments, which are important for the cross border cooperation within the area of each project partner and  in the sector of supporting service for mining by funding three starting enterprises, which operate in the partnership area on both sides of the border, by small amounts.

The logical process in the project  (part 1) by creating first functioning enterprise network serving the cross border cooperation by utilizing the best practises experiences, while  (part 2) improving the readiness (knowledge and knowhow) for cross border cooperation of the actors (particularly amongst the enterprises), then  (part 3) by investing in practical level business cross border cooperation development within the project area in the chosen key sectors of tourism and  (part 4) supporting services for mining.

Expected results  Improved CBC (know-how, best practices);  Enterprises cluster cross the border (new cross border mining related businesses) ;  Travel products packages;

Current state of affairs & plan for action for summer and autumn 2012  May 2012  Setting up and equipping of project offices in Kemijärvi and Kirovsk;  Agreement of tasks, employments agreements and job description among Finnish and Russian partners;  June 2012  Agreement of tasks, employment agreements and job description between Finnish and Russian partners on June 7 th 2012 in Kirovsk;  The project plan orientation, clarification of details and specification of the activities between partners and staff;  Start up and informative meetings in Eastern Lapland  Meeting with local entrepreneurs and regional authorities held by the Finnish staff

Current state of affairs & plan for action for summer and autumn 2012  July 2012  Study of required support activities for the partnership area  Identification of the best practises used in the partnership area cities/boroughs’ and enterprises’ cooperation within key industries  August 2012  Study of best practises for cooperation between municipalities and enterprises in the partnership area within the chosen key sectors.  First exchange of experiences: Study tours and visits to the partnerships areas by the experts and local authorities  Meeting with local entrepreneurs and regional authorities held by the Finnish staff

Current state of affairs & plan for action for summer and autumn 2012  September 2012  Networking models as part of normal working environment  mapping of present enterprise services in each location  Based on the study a concrete enterprise network is created to promote the cooperation in each city/municipality, between locations and also cross the border  October 2012  Kick off meeting to be held in Kemijärvi and presentation of the chosen model of enterprise network
