Shiawassee Early College Program

What is an Early College Program? The SRESD Early College Program is: Public, tuition-free. No cost for Books Three-year accelerated program Grades 11 through 13 Integrated with high school and college courses College campus/online experiences included

Benefits Early Entrance Students enter a college program while in high school (grades 11, 12, and 13) Early Exit Students may complete the program with an Associate’s degree or technical certificate, or may transfer credits to a Community College or University (Not UM-AnnArbor Early Success Students may earn up to 62 college credits while completing all high school requirements

Who is eligible? Students entering the 11 th or 12th grade in the fall of 2014 who have registered in a Shiawassee County high school Been recommended by their high school counselor or principal Submitted a completed application to the high school Required GPA/ACT and taken the placement assessment (if needed)

What is required? Each student will also be required to complete the Michigan Early/Middle College Association Technical Certificate with the completion of the following: Local District approved College Readiness Curriculum (including the Michigan High School Merit Curriculum) Minimum completion of 15 semester college credits with a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher (30 quarter credits at Baker) (If students quit during college semester parents will be charged!) 100 hours of verified community service OR at least 40 hours of verified career exploration, internship, job shadowing or clinical experience

What does a schedule look like?

Students will still be allowed to take part in all high school activities including band, sports, clubs, and dances at their local high school during their 9th through 12th grade years. SECP students will be allowed to walk at their high school graduation ceremony along with their classmates. Their high school diploma will be awarded at the same time as the student’s competition of the program (end of 13th grade year) by their local school district.
