Idea Store

How Universities started out. This is what academic libraries designed in the 17 th, 18 th, and 19 th century looked like But this is an Academic Library

But is this what you really want?

Cocciolo, A. (2010). Alleviating physical space constraints using virtual space?: A study from an urban academic library. Library Hi Tech, 28 (4),

The headlines are telling the tale.

Really?

Does it have a place here? YES!  Makerspaces DO have a place in Academic Libraries.  They are an avenue of access to previously untapped communities.  This is not just for the technically oriented. It can help meet curricular goals. It can be assignment dependent as well as a platform for independent discovery.  Maker spaces in academic libraries create digital and physical items in common working spaces with shared equipment and resources.  Small group projects create and foster collaboration and teach real world skills

What is it going to take to accomplish this ?  Talented Individuals – This college and community are full of them.  Institutional buy-in  Administrative Support  Leadership  Community Involvement

 We can make Hill College – The College of Choice –  Just by fulfilling the opportunities in front of us we can fill empty seats, create dreams and let people discover their passions. We can involve our communities and our students to dream big and grow.  We can collaborate between departments to create an exciting space, make learning more accessible and fun as well as meeting state and federally mandated goals and objectives. Conclusion
