What Young People Tell Us… 5 Schools took part in a survey top issues were: Take Democracy into schools before we are 18 (Our Democratic Team listened and are doing this). Councillors to visit schools and youth clubs Show young people how voting makes a difference in their neighbourhoods – make it real. Make it colourful and exciting Explain how policies effect young people? Tell us how it is, so we understand Tell young people what Councillors do. Politics is not focused on young people - we can’t vote till 18. Political education through entertainment NO POLITICAL JARGON!

Young People’s Concerns aged 13 – 17 years of age Mental Health Issues linked to loss and bereavement Financial Worries in the home Places to go after 9pm (somewhere safe and someone to talk to – Youth Café Idea) Pressures of exams/doing well at school Feeling safe on the streets at night Bullying issues:at home/school

What We Love about South Tyneside! The people and our sense of humour The Town Centre and the Beach Schools – new buildings/good teachers Support from Youth Workers/Sports Workers Lots of things for young people to do Excellent Summer Programme We get to meet our councillors and get lots of support (Political Speed Dating!) Seem to be more police on the streets – feels safer
