HOW TO COMPARE IN ENGLISH. When we compare two things, we must pay attention to the syllables of the adjectives:

Spelling Rule 1 1. For one syllable adjectives, add ‘er.’ (soft = softer)

Rule 2 For one syllable adjectives that end in ‘e,’ just add an ‘r.’ (safe = safer)

Rule 3 3. For one syllable adjectives that end with vowel + consonant double the final consonant, and add ‘er.’ (big = bigger)

Rule 4 4. For two syllable adjectives that in a ‘y,’ change the ‘y’ to an ‘i,’ and add ‘er.’ (fancy = fancier) (pretty = prettier)

Rule 5 1. For adjectives that have 3+ syllables, add the word ‘more’ before the adjective (beautiful = more beautiful) (delicious = more delicious)
