PIH Program Highlights  Real Estate Assessment Center – physical inspections of public housing and “project-based” Section 8 affordable rental housing  Choice Neighborhood Planning and Implementation grants  Self-Sufficiency Programs: Resident Opportunity and Self Sufficiency, Family Self Sufficiency, Jobs Plus  Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD)  Juvenile Reentry Assistance Program

Public Housing Program Impact  Housing Stability – PIH programs provide decent, safe and sanitary housing to over 3 million families annually.  Ending Homelessness- PIH program contribute significantly towards ending homelessness. In the HUD- VASH voucher program we have housed over 62,000 homeless veterans.  Affordable Housing Preservation and Neighborhood Revitalization- PIH grants promote revitalization with place-based strategies.  Resident Opportunities- PIH programs like Family Self- Sufficiency and Jobs Plus create opportunities for residents to have gainful employment and education. HUD’S Lead Safe Housing Rule PURPOSE: To protect children in assisted target housing through primary prevention Varying requirements based on Title X Type of assistance In some cases, amount of assistance Exemptions: Built after 1977 Inspection report says LBP free Single-room occupancy Designated for elderly or disabled (unless kids under 6 live there)

Currently, there are 123 active lead and healthy homes grantees representing all 10 HUD Regions 79 Lead Based Paint Hazard Control grantees 44 Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration grantees Since 1993, our grantees have made over 190,000 housing units lead-safe or healthy for residents. Amount of current funding awarded > $400 million HUD Lead & Healthy Homes Grantees 19 The states shaded in pink are states with active lead hazard control or healthy homes grants. What’s next for HUD  Update of Lead Safe Housing Rule for revised CDC reference level of concern  With Flint tragedy, renewed emphasis on lead hazards – esp. compliance, outreach, and updated policy  Possible funding increases for Lead Hazard Control grants and public housing testing/abatement in FY2017  Improve the inspection process for Section 8 voucher housing  Enhanced oversight of compliance with Lead Safe Housing Rule  Update of HUD’s “decent safe and sanitary” provisions to better define water safety 20
