NQIS – UCAS Tariff

22/06/ NQIS (The UCAS Tariff) At the heart of connecting people to higher education Background In July 2012 completed UCAS completed the Qualifications Information Review (QIR). Amongst the aims of this review was to review how effective the Tariff was at meeting the needs of learners, institutions and other stakeholders. UCAS were in favour of phasing out Tariff, however respondents wanted to keep a revised model.

22/06/ Benefits of new model At the heart of connecting people to higher education Many qualifications cannot be accommodated within the current methodology, as the Tariff domains are not suited to vocational qualifications, the process is AO led and complex. Simple & transparent HEP led not AO led Flexible and applicable to all qual types Sustainable model that can manage qual reform Based on publically available, regulated information Annual review

22/06/ Benefits of new model At the heart of connecting people to higher education Fair to applicants as is simple and transparent, applicable to all level 3 qualifications and does not unfairly discriminate against any type of learner. size (points) x grade (points) = Tariff points Size bands - qualifications will be allocated a size band of 1 to 4, based on their guided learning hours Grade bands - qualifications will also be allocated a grade band.
