EXAMPLE How can I make sure I PlaySafe?

EXAMPLE Group work task Assess the toy in front of you. Check for safety marks, small parts. Write down on the paper what is safe about the toy? Unsafe? What age group is it for? Why? Then…move around.

EXAMPLE Should they buy the toy? Why?

EXAMPLE Scenario one Carly has two young children but is a single mum with a small income so she can’t afford to spend a lot on toys. She does want to treat her youngest son, who is three, for his birthday though with something special. She has seen a second hand remote controlled car on the market. It has the box with a lion mark on it, and she intends to check the item over before buying it.

EXAMPLE Scenario two Simon has a younger brother who is seven. He is very grown up for his age and is really interested in science. Simon wants to buy him a chemistry set for Christmas but the age on it is 10 years plus and it recommends the child should be supervised during use.

EXAMPLE Scenario three Sarah has two daughters and likes to do fun things with them like dressing up. She has seen a bead making kit that she knows they will love. Her children are 12 and 7. She intends to let them play with them unsupervised in the school holidays while she gets on with her important work.

EXAMPLE Scenario four Bob has seen a fantastic model construction kit at a car boot sale, complete with matchsticks, glue and cutting tools. He wants to do it as a project in the holidays but it is really a bargain price because it has no instructions.

EXAMPLE Provide three pieces of advice for a parent choosing a toy for their child
