Rahab and the Spies Joshua 2:1-24

Purpose of this Account : 1.To assure the people (through the spies) that God had given Israel the land 2.To exemplify the faith of Rahab as part of the greater story of God’s unfolding kingdom

Rahab’s Faith 1. The Works of Her Faith she risked her life to protect and aide God’s people she demonstrated her allegiance to Yahweh against her own people

Rahab’s Faith 1. The Works of Her Faith “And in the same way was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works, when she received the messengers and them out by another way? For just as the body with the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.” James 2:25-26

Rahab’s Faith 2. The Nature of Her Faith a) she heard a testimony about Yahweh – His mighty acts of salvation and judgment on behalf of His people

Rahab’s Faith 2. The Nature of Her Faith b) she formed a conviction about Yahweh – He alone is the true God of heaven above and earth below

Rahab’s Faith 2. The Nature of Her Faith c) she sought refuge in Yahweh – she saw her desperate need and sought safety from the Lord’s coming judgment

Rahab’s Faith 3. The Reward of Her Faith she and her household were saved from God’s judgment on Jericho Rahab’s house was a place of safety from God’s judgment – a type of Christ/cross

Rahab’s Faith 3. The Reward of Her Faith she became part of the covenant people of God, and part of the line of Messiah!

Kingdom Perspective Rahab is an example of the inclusion of Gentiles in the Abrahamic covenant Rahab is an example of the wideness of God’s mercy to save and transform the most unlikely of sinners
