Introduction Web/Video Conferencing allows students and staff to interact “Nothing is more social than face to face collaboration” “Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere” How do we facilitate these interactions?
Where are we now? Skype -Already used within the University by individual users -Ideal for one to one video conferencing -Can be integrated with Moodle Nefsis -Rich feature set and allows users to share the most complicated ideas and plans in the easiest of ways -Used in distance learning and research collaboration for small group where full classroom facilities are required Blackboard Virtual Classroom -Allows for realtime interaction between the instructor and the students. Archive of chats available for those who couldn’t participate.
What the Future Holds? BigBlueButton - An open source web conferencing system that runs on mac, UNIX or PC computers. -Will be available for use by start of T3 from within Moodle. Lync – Lync 2010 is the next generation of Office communications Server (OCS). Lync manages various forms of communication from one user interface: instant messages, voice calls, video calls, meetings and shared whiteboard sessions. Lync also includes enterprise voice capabilities to reduce legacy infrastructure costs – Microsoft Lync works with applications in three other Microsoft families, SharePoint and Exchange.
