Resp. System Part Functions

Nose: Warm/filter air

Sinuses: Warm/ moisten air. Determines voice tone. – Frontal – Maxillary – Ethmoid – Sphenoid

Pharynx: Common passageway for food, air, and water. 5” long.

Epiglottis: Closes over the larynx when swallowing.

Larynx: Voice box (very sensative)

Glottis: Vocal cords

Trachea: Wind pipe. 4.5” long. Rings of hyaline cartilage keep it open. Lined with a mucous membrane.

Bronchi: Branches of trachea. Similar to trachea.

Bronchioles: Branch of bronchi. Thin walls of smooth muscle.

Alveoli: Air sacs. Single layer of epithelial tissue. High humidity.
