PROJECT GUIDE Mr. G. MOHAN KUMAR B.E.,

OBJECTIVE In order to save energy, we should not only consider power reduction of consumer electronics itself but also efficient automatic control in networked home environment. Here we present a design approach and implementation result of control mechanism for power conservation.

EXISTING SYSTEM  In the existing system there are IR modules detects the occupancy of the room.  And the signal is given to the controller which directly controls the relay circuitry.  For this the need is that every room must have switches in that room itself

PROPOSED SYSTEM In this project we are going to employ the new technology of Zigbee and IR module for evaluating the person detail in a room. The IR module is connected to the microcontroller and when the microcontroller receives the signal from a particular IR sensor, the controller transmits the corresponding signal to the Zigbee transceiver which transmits the signal in wireless to the other Zigbee module which is connected to the controller. The controller controls the devices through relay circuitry according to the signal received from the Zigbee.

ABSTRACT As more and more consumer electronics and home appliances are deployed and the size of them is becoming large, power consumption in home area tends to grow. Moreover, useless power consumption occurs when they do not perform the primary function or even when they are turned off. This is called standby power. It is known that average 10% of a total household power is consumed during standby power state.

MASTER SECTION POWER SUPPLY 8051 MICRO CONTROLLER RELAY DEVICE IR MODULE

SLAVE SECTION POWER SUPPLY 8051 MICRO CONTROLLER LCD KEYPAD AUTO/MANUAL MODE SELECTION SWITCH

MASTER CIRCUIT AT89S52 microcontroller is connected with ZIGBEE transceiver, which is present in both the master and slave circuit. The master circuit additionally has an LCD display to monitor the slave circuit which is in the place of monitoring room. It is provided with the keypad with certain KEYS which are correspondingly programmed for the devices in the monitoring room. Here the master circuit has an option of switching between AUTO and MANUAL mode The AT89S52 MICROCONTROLLER controls all the commands within the circuit and sends to the slave circuit via ZIGBEE

S LAVE CIRCUIT The slave circuit has two IR modules for the purpose of detecting the presence of human in the testing room It has several DEVICES which can be either automatically controller or manually controlled from the master circuit The devices are controlled and co-ordinate by the RELAY switches The Data’s from the slave circuit is forwarded to the master circuit by the ZIGBEE transceiver. The AT89S52 MICROCONTROLLER and POWER SUPPLY of 230V, are as essential as they were in the master circuit, for the process of home automation and power saving.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION In the MASTER CIRCUIT, transmitter and receiver IR modules are connected are connected to the 38 th and 39th pin’s of AT89S52 microcontroller, as port 1 and 2. A crystal oscillator is connected to the pin’s 18 and 19 of microcontroller for its clock pulses. Its frequency is 11.o592MHz and at pin 31 EA is enabled. At pin 21 and 22 of microcontroller, ULN2003 is connected, which has a series of transistors which are inbuilt on it. To this a pair of diodes is connected in order to equalize negative resistance. And also via relay switches, the required devices are connected. At the pin 10 and 11, MAX 232 IC is connected in order to bring the RS232 serial communication protocol between the microcontroller and computer. It acts as a voltage level converter.

In the SLAVE CIRCUIT, a series of five switches are connected to the AT89S52 microcontroller from the pins 35 to 39 Along with the MAX232 and crystal oscillator in the slave circuit, here a LCD is connected to the microcontroller from the pins 21 to 28. To the pins 13 and 14 of max232, ZIGBEE transceiver is connected Power supply gives a 230V supply, which is passed to a step down transformer, rectifier and then later to a filter for gaining the required power In the auto mode, the load is turned on once a person enters the testing room, and remains the same, until the count reaches to 6 and here the next load is switched on. And in the manual mode, based on the reading in the LCD, the person in the monitoring room can switch on the loads in the testing room The LCD used here is 16x2 alphanumeric displays. This means 16 characters per line by 2 lines respectively.
