When writing a body paragraph, use AREA structure… A – Argument R – Reason E – Evidence Explanation A – Argument
Argument First sentence – topic sentence Answers: What are you trying to prove? What’s your position/opinion? When you write an argument, use words from the prompt
Reason First sentence – topic sentence Answers: Why do you have that position/opinion/argument? When you write a reason, use the word “because” add it to your argument
Evidence Answers: Why is your reason true? When you write evidence, use transitions words like, “for example” or “for instance” use personal experience or facts from a text
Explanation Answers: So what does your evidence prove? When you write explanation, put the evidence into your own words connect the evidence back to your reason and argument
Argument Last sentence – conclusion sentence Answers: What are you trying to prove? What’s your position/opinion? When you write an argument for the conclusion sentence, use synonyms for words in the prompt
