Observing Phenotypes Complete “An Inventory of My Traits

Some vocabulary Your height or any other physical traits we can observe is called your phenotype The genes you have that cause a trait to look the way is does is called your Genotype

Genes The sections of DNA that code for specific traits Genes can be Dominant – trait always shows up if the gene is present. The gene shows its specific trait even if only one parent passed the gene to the child Recessive – trait is masked if the dominant gene is present. Gene shows its specific trait only when both parents pass the gene to the child.
