LABORATORY EXAMINATION OF THE VESTIBULAR SYSTEM

CURRENTLY, THE VESTIBULAR TESTS THAT ARE IN PRACTICAL USE INCLUDE ELECTRO- NYSTAGMOGRAPHY, ROTATION TESTING AND POSTUROGRAPHY.

ENG AND ROTATIONAL TESTING EVALUATE VESTIBULO-OCULAR REFLEX [VOR] POSTUROGRAPHY IS THE TEST OF POSTURAL STABILTY /VESTIBULOSPINAL REFLEX/.

ENG REMAINS THE MAINSTAY OF THE VESTIBULAR ASSESSMENT BECAUSE IT PROVIDES THE ABILITY TO TEST THE VESTIBULAR AND OCULOMOTOR SYSTEMS AND ALSO TO CHECK EACH SIDE SEPARATELY.

INDICATION FOR ENG TEST DIZZINESS SN HEARING LOSS TINNITUS

THE PREPARATION OF THE PATIENT THE PATIENT IS ASKED: NOT TO DRINK ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES 48 HOURS BEFORE THE TEST, NOT TO EAT 2 HOURS BEFORE THE TEST, NOT TO WEAR MAKE-UP, LOTIONS OR FACE CREAMS, NOT TO USE MEDICINES AGAINST VERTIGO, SLEEPING-PILLS, SEDATIVES 48 HOURS BEFORE THE TEST, NOT TO DRIVE A CAR 1 HOUR AFTER THE TEST.

SPONTANEOUS NYSTAGMUS TEST THE PARTS OF ENG OCULOMOTR TESTS SPONTANEOUS NYSTAGMUS TEST PAROXYSMAL TEST POSITIONAL TEST CALORIC TEST

DIRECTION OF THE EYE MOVEMENT RED –EYE MOVEMENT TO THE RIGHT /RECORDING IS DIRECTED FROM DOWN TO UP/ . THE BLACK LINE – THE EYE IS NOT MOVING. THE BLUE LINE IS DIRECTED FROM UP TO DOWN –THE EYE IS MOVING TO THE LEFT. AXIS X IS THE AXIS OF TIIME /SECONDS/. AXIS Y IS THE AXIS OF DISTANCE /DEGREES/. THE RECORDING GOES FROM LEFT TO THE RIGHT.
