Presentation transcript:

Family Rooms, Entryways, Patios, Porches, Courts By, Brylee, Tara, Shelly, Lily

Family Rooms Location Where? -By the kitchen and dinning room Why? -extensions to learning or service areas -provides overflow space -so they can be involved in the family room activities

Entryways Location Where? -opens to the living room of the house -often a foyer Why? -people should be able to move through other parts of the home without interfering with activities in any area

Patios Location Where? -built at grade level an outdoor extension -grade level- is the land surrounding the building -play patios- are adjacent to a family room or service area to provide an area for play activities -living patios- are located near the living areas of the home. By the living room, dining room, and family room -quiet patios- are located on the quiet side of the dwelling, near the bedrooms. Used for relaxing, reading, and sleeping

Porches Location Where? -porch is an outdoor extension that is built above grade level -it is as well covered by a roof -an under covered porch is called a deck -off the kitchen or dining room -often located in the front of the main entrance Why? -to provide shelter for guest -and protection for the entry

Courts Location Where? -located where primary meeting places are -partially or completely enclosed by walls -patio like structure Why? -used for relaxing, entertaining, and dining -they are more prevalent in warm climates where heating is not a major consideration Works Cited:

Size and Arrangement Family Rooms -depends on the activities planned for it and the number of people who will use it -minimum space of 12 by 16 ft. is recommended -storage units can be arranged for room dividers, that separates an activity area from the remainder of the room -should have comfortable and durable furniture -floors need to be easy to clean and suitable for activities

Size and Arrangement Entryways -the minimum space required to fully open the door is 3 by 5 ft. -5 by 7 ft. is more convenient and comfortable -the minimum foyer size is 6 ft. squared not including closet space -for easy access should be 4 to 5 ft. from the door nob side of the doors not directly behind the door -should place a door mat outside -the floor should be durable

Size and Arrangement Patios -vary in size and shape -patio is determined by the activities planned -12 by 14 ft. for the minimum -16 by 18 ft. for the maximum size -the exposure to the sun should be considered in the design of planning a patio -the sun is a desirable factor so the patio should be place on the south side of the home

Size and Arrangement Porches -built high off the ground and are called verandas or balconies -located in front of the main entrance to provide shelter for guests and protection for the entry -dining porch can be located off the kitchen or dining rom -shape and size should fit the design of the dwelling -lines on the porch should complement the lines of the house

Size and Arrangement Courts -enclosed by walls -min125 ft. -max 200 ft.

Conclusion Main entryways and foyers control circulation to other parts of the house. The design considerations for those areas include size, location, floor coverings, decor, and enough storage for coats and boots. Other types of entries provide access to patios, decks, terraces, or porches that extend the homes living space outdoors. Attention to certain details can make the entire living area accessible to all household members and guests
