Video Creation, Editing & Sharing Conor Sullivan & Charlotte Holland Steps in creating your Video Clip

Step 1: Decide on Equipment Step 1: Decide what equipment you wish to use to record your video: –Using a Phone –Using a Digital Camera –Using a Digital Video Recorder

Using a Phone Edit Share Share (using WiFi connection on phone)

Using a Digital Camera Edit Share

Using a Digital Video Camera Convert to.mpeg4 Upload as.mpeg2 Share Convert to.wmv

Step 2: Record Video Using your phone: –Enter into the phone ‘Settings’ –Find ‘Video Quality’ –Change the Video quality to ‘Normal’ setting – this ensures that your video file size is not too large for transmission. –Exit Settings Tap on Camera/ Video icon on your phone Record your Video – it is best to take a few different recordings of your video. [NOTE: Audio (voice-over) and pictures need to be recorded ‘live’, as you can’t upload audio or still pictures to Youtube. Also, ideally your video would be no more than 3 minutes in length]

Step 3: Accessing your Video On your phone: –Find your new ‘Video’ file in the storage area of your phone – for example; it may be found within the ‘gallery’ of pictures etc

Step 4a: Transferring from phone (with wifi) directly to Internet If your phone has wifi access, then you do not need to use a laptop to transfer the video online. You can directly upload the video to Youtube. Using your phone: –Tap on Storage area for videos (example: Gallery) –Choose the video you want to upload – usually tick the video. –Tap on ‘Share Via’ –Tap on ‘Youtube’ option –Enter a name for your video –Tap on Upload, when ready Now, open Chrome or FireFox browser on your laptop, and go to Youtube: Follow instructions on Step 5 and Step 7 to view and edit your video on You-tube

Step 4b: Transferring from phone (with no wifi) to laptop If your phone has no wifi access: –Connect your phone to laptop using connector cable (USB cable) –Double-click on the new icon that appears on your laptop screen –Click and drag your Video file, usually stored in the folder called DCIM, onto the Desktop –Follow Step 5 & Step 6 to complete transfer to Youtube

Step 5: Logging into You-tube All DCU students automatically have a Youtube account We recommend that you use either Chrome or FireFox as your Internet Browser (not Internet Explorer) Go to: Click on Sign IN Enter your DCU address ONLY and Click on Sign IN You will be re-directed to DCU, where you enter your DCU username and password, Click LOGIN, and it will re-direct to YouTube

Step 6: Uploading from laptop If this is your first time uploading a video, you may be promoted to create your own channel! Click on Create a Channel Enter your details Click on OK Click on Continue

Step 6: Uploading from laptop This step should only be followed, if you need to transfer your video file from a laptop to Youtube: Click on Upload Click on Video Manager Click on Upload a Video

Step 6: Uploading from laptop To select and upload your video from desktop: –Click on Select files from your computer –Browse to find the video file from your desktop –Click on Open –You will be asked to set a new Title and Description for your video –Click on Privacy setting – Click on ‘Private’ until ready to publish the FINAL version of video, when you also share with: –Click on Save Changes –Click on UPLOAD

Step 7: Viewing your Youtube Video Go to Youtube: – If you are not already signed into Youtube, then follow step 5 to sign into Youtube using your DCU account. If you are signed into Youtube, click on your name/ channel Then, click on Video Manager to view your newly uploaded Video file.

Step 8: Editing your Video Click on Video Editor to edit your video Click and drag the video you want to edit onto the Timeline below You are now ready to ‘trim’ your video clip, add music or add text. Re-name your file and Publish when finished

Advice in creation of Video 1.Any changes made to your video in Youtube are permanent, so please ensure that you have a second copy of the original file stored elsewhere. 2.Ensure that the privacy settings are set to Private in Youtube – Only make the final version public and/ or share only with Charlotte. 3.YOU CANNOT USE MUSIC CLIPS UNLESS YOU HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE CREATOR OF THE MUSIC, WHICH is very difficult to get! 4.Furthermore, Youtube DO NOT want you to upload copyrighted music. However, they do provide access to music called audio swap, which you are allowed to use or add when you are editing your video in Youtube. ain ain 5.Be careful when adding music, as it can overwrite original voice or music that was playing in background when the video was originally recorded. Slide the button that allows you to choose between Audio, music or both to ‘Equal’ – this will allow both the original voice-over and any new music added to be heard. 6.If you intend using Youtube to combine several different music clips, then you must add the music in Video Manager to each of the clips – then merge them in Video Editor. 7.Easier to use just one song on background – note: must use songs from Youtube catalogue of songs – which can be added within the Video Editor. 8.Only add keywords or captions (as opposed to long sentences) to each clip/ slide within Youtube.
