The park got its name from the big bend of the Rio Grande along Texas’ border

NORTH CENTRAL PLAINS Grassy landscape with many Cedar tress In the central part of this region there are large dome-shaped granite uprisings The largest is Enchanted Rock Dinosaurs lived in this region Fossils from different types of dinosaurs have been found here Small patches of wooded lands are scattered throughout this region These woods are the Cross Timbers because the woods cross the prairie

COASTAL PLAINS Begin at the beaches of the Gulf Coast and stretch west into the grassy plains Near the coast you will find: Barrier islands, marshes, bays, estuaries The area of the East Texas within the Coastal Plains is dense with pine forests Many areas are wet bottomlands along rivers Other parts are very dry and covered with thorny brush
