EXCHANGE ORIENTATION FOR OUTGOING STUDENTS

APPLICATION TO THE HOST UNIVERSITY WITH THE INTERNATIONAL COORDINATOR At the second step of the application process the student applies for the host university that makes the final decision about accepting the student. The student should check up on the application procedure, the needed application documents of the host university and give the necessary documents to the coordinator in time. Students should also fill in the learning agreement form and ask the signature of the coordinator of the faculty. The coordinator will send the students’ applications to the host universities that will make the final decision about selecting students.

LANGUAGE SKILLS & TESTS Some universities in Australia, United States and Canada require a language test like TOEFL or IELTS from the applicants. Do you already have your results? For more information see or

In case the length of your stay abroad changes, notify the changes immediately to the International Coordinator, Päivi, and to the International Coordinator of your faculty. You should also inform KELA If you cancel your exchange after applying to host university, you will have to pay the cancelation fee 84€ Inform KELA about studying abroad – Opintotuen muutosilmoitus Register as attending student for academic year Student union membership fee is voluntary. Take care of the Travel Insurance. Apply for visa or residence permit if needed. Check that your passport is valid through out your study abroad or even longer if needed. Take care of necessary vaccinations. BEFORE EXCHANGE

STUDY ABROAD DURATION Erasmus 3-5 months (Semester usually) Erasmus 6-8 months (Check carefully!) Erasmus 9-12 months (Full academic Year usually) One semester: Bilateral 3-6 months or n2n 3-4 months Full Academic Year: Bilateral 7-12 tai n2n 5-12 In case you terminate your study abroad before minimum 3 months, notify immediately to the International Office and to the International Coordinator of your faculty. You might have to pay back your grant of part of it.

GRANT PAYMENT To get your exchange study grant you need: Confirm the Exchange Confirmation and grant form for exchange period Admission/ Acceptance Letter from host university  80 % of grant will be paid beforehand and 20 % after the exchange when the documentation is finished.  ULapland pays the grants on 15th and last of each month  Nordplus network pays the Nordplus grant. DURING THE EXCHANGE Learning Agreement & Changes to Original Learning Agreement No tution fees. Be prepared for additional costs such as course books or copying. The host university can also require a mandatory insurance. Attend International fairs and promote Ulapland. You can use online material and International Office can send promotion material.

DURING THE EXCHANGE Keep a journal of your studies to ease the transferring of the credits after your exchange period. Ask for a Transcript of Records from your host university before returning home. On your last week of exchange ask the host university to fill in the Letter of Confirmation

AFTER YOUR EXCHANGE (within 2 weeks) After the exchange period all students must return all of the following exchange documents to SoleMOVE: Letter of Confirmation Learning Agreement Copy of Transcript of records Fill in the statistical data in SoleMOVE Give the exchange feedback/report online  Credit transfer at the University of Lapland
