 To understand global factors causing the growth in tourism. 1. Describe the following factors that have influenced growth in tourism? a)Social b)Economic c)Political

Tourism explosion Social More leisure time Paid leave Transport Faster and Cheaper Political Easy border controls Economic More disposable income Communication Mass Media = Greater awareness

More disposable income = more money to spend on non-essential items

Greater communication = People are more aware of domestic/ local and international destinations

Transport = Travel is quicker and cheaper to global destinations

Political = Less restrictive border controls within the European Union

Social = Increased leisure time and paid holidays – family friendly work style

 Climate – dry sunny warm weather – good snow conditions  Wildlife –animals safaris, bird sanctuary, whale/dolphin watching.  Scenery – attractive, spectacular.  Protected areas – National Parks.  Beaches – clean sand, safe swimming, good surf.

 Cultural heritage – museums, temples, festivals.  Accommodation – quality hotels, comfortable lodges.  Local cuisine – special food and good restaurants.  Recreational facilities – golf courses / Leisure centres  Access – quality of transport connections.  Personal security – low crime rate.
