How the COAD was formed

Mission Statement The Staten Island Community Organizations Active in Disaster endeavors to improve the capacity of not-for-profits and service organizations on Staten Island to provide support and services to the Staten Island community in times of crisis and to increase the capacity of the entire sector through cooperation, coordination, and communication.

Situational Awareness Takeaways 1. Out of state hotline are available only with 20% of the agencies questioned. 2. Organizations need a written emergency preparedness plan 3. Tabletops and full scale exercises needed. 4. Lack of instruction to clients regarding major emergencies in the community. 5. New employee orientation re: preparedness procedures and policies. 6. Organizational community support re: transition of vulnerable populations. 7. Staff need Job Action Sheets in order to know their roles during an emergency. 8. If landlines are down, what is the alternate communications plan? 9. Agencies have ongoing issues with difficulty obtaining gas 10. Alternate organizations list to maintain programs.
