Whole Body Color 3D Scanner by Cyberware (www. cyberware.com) This - captures the shape and color of the entire human body - enables to obtain accurate measurements and realistic alternatives to oversimplified or stylized forms - allows fashion designers, animators, and researchers to work with true human 3D body data

Features (1) - rapid scanning time (as little as 17 seconds) - captures the intricacies of the human body in one pass (the scanning instruments start at the person's head and move down only once to scan the entire body) - has improved accuracy on the sides of the body and in difficult-to-reach areas, such as under a person's arms - scans a cylindrical volume 2 meters (79") high with a diameter of 1.2 meters (47"). These dimensions accommodate the vast majority of the human population. For even larger subjects, software enables the user to combine two or more scans quickly into a complete 3D color model

Features (2) - color information in 3D digitizing makes available nearly all the information a graphics application needs to fully describe an object - The software offered by Cyberware includes tools for editing, modifying, and measuring scanned objects - Tools are also provided to translate file formats so that you can take advantage of the many commercially-available software packages that work with 3D models

System Specification (1) - Field of View (Cylindrical) diameter : 120cm (47inch), height : 200cm (79inch) - Sampling Pitch horizontal (X) : 5mm (0.19"), vertical (Y) : Depends upon motion platform speed; 30 samples per second in Y; typically 2mm (0.080") depth (Z) : 0.5mm (0.019") - Color Data 8 bits each for red, green, and blue, or luminance - Sampling Speed 60,000 points per second, digitized to X, Y, Z and R, G, and B components.

System Specification (2) - Size width : 360cm (144"), height : 292cm (117") depth : 300cm (120"), weight : 450Kg (992 lbs) - Output Formats Echo, PLY, 3D Studio, OBJ, STL, ASCII, DXF (3D FACES), DXF, IGES , VRML, IGES 128 NURBS, Inventor, Digital Arts (SGI), MOVIE.BYU (SGI), SCR (Mesh & Slice) (SGI)

Scanning Process - uses four scanning instruments mounted on two vertical towers - A person stands on the scanner's platform - The scanning instruments start at the person's head and move down to scan the entire body

Sample Scan Data (1)

Sample Scan Data (2)

Clothes-Fitting Demo Using Cyberware 3D Scanner Datasets ( Application of 3D Simulation into Clothing Industry ) - We can display features of consumer wearing various clothes on web site <= wearing only underwear wearing underwear and top =>

3D Body Line Scanner In Japan (www. hpk. co. jp) - With an infrared LED and a semiconductor position sensing detector (PSD), triangulation is used for rapid, non-contact measurement of three-dimensional shapes of target objects - measures 3-dimensional shapes of the human body, by positioning multiple distance sensors around the person being measured and scanning from top to bottom. A single scan reads 192 points in the horizontal direction and 340 points in the vertical direction, in only 16 seconds.

Features - measures 3-dimensional shapes of the human body in only 16 seconds, and displays it on monitor 1 minutes later - has accuracy within 0.5% error extent - Scannig volume height : 2m, thickness : 5m, width : 9m - developed sotfware(Body Line Manager, BLM). This software extracts landmarks(42 poins) and measures 53 lists automatically. Also posssible to simulate wearing figures. - possibly apply to clothing, medical, engineering field

Scanning Sample Scan dataScan Processing

tc2.com (www. tc2. com) - The scanner of this company captures hundreds of thousands of data points of an individual's image, and the software automatically extracts dozens of measurements - This measurement information can be electronically compared to garment specifications and other data in order to recommend the size an individual should purchase or used as a basis for made to measure clothing - The scanning software exists for the customer to view the fit and appearance of both made to measure and standard-sized garments as a computer simulation (a virtual try-on)
