Presentation on nomination and selection procedure of representatives for the JPI Governing Bodies (GA and Advisory Boards) 2. Presentation on nomination and selection procedure of scientists for the Working Groups 3. Procedures and timeline for the constitution of the JPI bodies

JPI “More Years, Better Lives: The Potential and Challenges of Demographic Change” 7 Meeting , Berlin 1. Nomination and selection procedure of representatives for the JPI Governing Bodies (GA and Advisory Boards) - Nomination for the General Assembly will be made by each particiapting country. The decision making rule within the General Assembly shall be “one country – one vote” and this requires that any MS or AS delegation nominate a single voting person. - Scientific Advisory Board: It is proposed to constitute the SAB with 15 persons, among them the chairs and vice chairs of the 5 thematic Working Groups (10 members) and 5 external experts nominated on personal merits whatever their country, including countries not participating in the JPI and not as representatives of countries, stakeholders or lobbyists. They will be nominated for period of 2 years, they can be nominated for a second term. - The General Assembly will define the number of experts nominated to the Societal Advisory Board. At this stage, it is proposed to constitute the SOAB with about 20 persons. Members will be nominated for period of 2 years, they can be nominated for a second term.

Nomination and selection procedure of scientists for the Working Groups (Input: Proposal document from 1 September 2010) Stage 1: Member States in the JPI propose a list of emminent scientists for each working group taking into account the following criteria: Scientific Excellence/International reputation of the nominated scientist Involvement in national/international research projects and programmes of the nominated scientists

JPI “More Years, Better Lives: The Potential and Challenges of Demographic Change” 9 Meeting , Berlin Stage 2: Based on the nominations of the member states and taking into account the thematic and interdisciplinary scope of each working group, a proposal for a start-up configuration for each working groups will be prepared by the JPI scretariat. In this selection, the following criteria should be used: International and gender diversity Interdisciplinarity: All disciplines/reseach areas defined as neccessary for a certain WG should be involved. Stage 3: The final start-up members of the working groups will be confirmed by the General Assembly.

JPI “More Years, Better Lives: The Potential and Challenges of Demographic Change” 10 Meeting , Berlin Procedures and timeline for the constitution of the JPI bodies All nominations should be sent to the JPI secretariat until 1 November The Secretariat will provide an overview and comprehensive lists of all nominations and distribute this to all participating countries. The formal approval of the nominations will be done in the next meeting.

JPI “More Years, Better Lives: The Potential and Challenges of Demographic Change” 11 Meeting , Berlin With the use of a template information on all relevant national programmes will be collected. (Deadline 1 November 2010) The secretariat will provide this information in appropriate form to all participants online (i.e. Database).
