Vision Statement - Original The Couch Middle School counseling program will help students maximize their potential to become effective leaders at home, work, and community. Our program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to be empathetic, compassionate, honest, and loyal to themselves and others. As a result, students will become contributing members of our ever changing world, accepting of cultural diversity, responsible citizens, self-empowered, and successful lifelong learners.

Our students will graduate college or technical training to be equipped to meet the challenges of an ever changing global workforce. Our students will possess the necessary skills to be empathetic and compassionate toward others as well as independent and responsible adults. Students will become contributing members of their community, accepting of cultural diversity, and be critical thinkers as they navigate the complexities of home, career, and community.
Mission Statement - Original The mission of the Couch Middle School Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive developmentally age-appropriate guidance and counseling program, which is accessible to all students regardless of race, religion, and economic status. Certified professional school counselors will inspire students to be academically successful, self- motivated, and respectful members of the community, the country, and ultimately the world through core curriculum lessons, small groups, and individual counseling.
Mission Statement - Revised The mission of the Couch Middle School Counseling Program is for all students to engage in a comprehensive developmentally age-appropriate counseling program, which is equally accessible regardless of race, religion, and economic status. Students will be encouraged to pursue academic rigor and aspired to be academically and behaviorally successful, self-motivated, and respectful members of their community. Professional school counselors will partner with administrators, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to advocate for and ensure equity, access, and success for all students. Students will be equipped to excel academically, personally, and socially as they prepare to meet world class standards.
Program Goals Goal #1 - based on PBIS data shown above and teacher survey: By May 20, 2015, the number of minor incidences of all students at Couch Middle will decrease by 200. Goal #2 - based on survey, teachers recommendation, grades: By the end of each semester, the class average of students who have been identified by their teachers and/or the Student Support Team (SST) as lacking organizational and study skills based on low class grades, low test scores, and teachers’ observations will increase by 10 points.
Program Goals - Revised Goal #1: By May 20, 2015, the number of minor infractions of all students, as defined by the Positive Behavior Intervention and Strategies (PBIS) program, will decrease by 200 from the school year of (from 1,409 to the target of 1,209 or less). Goal #2: By May 20, 2015, 100% of the target group of identified students in jeopardy of summer school/retention will successfully meet promotion criteria with a grade of a least 70%. Goal #3: By May 20, 2015, the number of identified Caucasian students in grades 6 th through 8 th with 10 or more days of absences in school year and 5 days or more in the first nine weeks in the school year will reduced by 20% (from 59 to target of 47 or less).
