WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ME Let’s make a list ALL about me!

TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF Create a list of words that are meaningful to you… Likes.…Dislikes….Hobbies…Movies….Friends….Family…Travel….Foo d…Music….Television….Video Games….

NOW, CIRCLE THE THREE WORDS THAT STAND OUT FOR YOU, THE ONES THAT YOU COULD SAY MORE ABOUT.

MY CIRCLED EXAMPLE

Pick one circled word and freewrite about the thought. That means you just start writing about that idea, object, role, or event. The only rule is don’t stop writing for at least two or three minutes. Whatever comes to mind is fair game. *Connect the word to an EXPERIENCE*

The first time I rode a roller coaster was one of my greatest memories. The previous times I went to six flags and I was always too scared to ride the roller coasters, so I always felt left out because I couldn’t ride them or even think about riding them without getting sick. Then one day I was at six flags with a couple friends and we were walking towards a roller coaster. They didn’t know about my fear of roller coaster and I wasn’t really prepared to tell them. We finally got to the line and it wasn’t as long as I hoped it would be, so I didn’t really have time to prepare for the ride. We were next to ride and I was very nervous. I didn’t really want ride but I didn’t want to look bad in front of my friends, but I manned up and got on. Now there was no way out. I looked around and saw everybody so excited to ride, but I wasn’t. I felt sick, like I wanted to throw up, but I didn’t I held it down. The next thing I knew the ride was started and I was scared out of my mind but I tried not to show it.

When the ride was over I felt so good about myself because I had conquered one of my greatest fears. I felt like I could take on anything and everything. After that I went on every ride and never felt left out again. I could finally ride without fear. This showed me that if I set my mind to something I could do it. Before I went on the ride I wasn’t really living life I was taking it safe, but that ride taught me to take full advantage of life, never take no for answer and never be satisfied. If I wouldn’t have got on the ride I still would be scared of roller coasters, and I probably would not be the person I am today. The ride taught me to take chances and never wonder “what if”, and that’s how I think everybody should live because if you don’t what’s the point of living? If nobody took chances the world would be really boring and nothing would ever happen.

If I didn’t take that ride I would have been left wondering “what if” and that’s something I never want to do. You can go through life the safe way which I don’t think is living at all or you can go through the life taking chances which I think is living, and you’re taking advantage of all the advantages that come up for you.

A MEMOIR What have you just experienced?

What are the characteristics of a Memoir?

Cornell Notes On MEMOIR Memoir Characteristics *A memory; a description of an event from the past *Written in the first person; told from one person’s point of view *Based on the truth *Reveals the feelings of the writer *Has meaning; shows what the author learned from the experience *Focused on one event; about one point in the author’s life *About the author’s experience more than about the event itself
