How Species Interact with Each Other Section 8.2 Objectives: 1. Explain the difference between niche and habitat. 2. Describe the five major types of interactions between species.

Habitat vs. Niche Habitat = location Niche includes: Unique role of a species within an ecosystem Physical home Environmental factors necessary for the species’ survival All of the species’ interactions with other organisms

YOUR Niche Draw a “niche map” that shows how you use your habitat. Think about: Where do you gather resources? What kinds of resources do you prefer? With whom do you compete or cooperate? Where do you live or hang out? Do you spend certain times of the day in certain places?

Niche Map Example Niche Resources What? From where? RelationshipsLocation LiveWorkHang out

Assignment #46 - Species Interactions Spider Map Use information on pages in your textbook. Create a leg for each type of species interaction. Fill in details about each type of species interaction. Include an example for each type.

Assignment #47 – “Relationship” Advertisement Write a humorous advertisement for a newspaper or a commercial for television about a species seeking a new “relationship” with another species. This is due tomorrow!!! Also due tomorrow: Environmental news article!
