Presentation transcript:

Discovery RtI Solution Overview for New York State RTI Why RTI? * Included in IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Act * Integral part of Reading First under NCLB * Includes measures of fluency based on National Reading and National Math Council reports * Measures “working memory” in math & reading which predict learning disabilities * Part of comprehensive Discovery Assessment approach to help all children

Discovery RTI Functions for RTI Steps of RTI: 1 Compare growth of at-risk students to school/district 2 Set Benchmark target for each at-risk student 3 Set up RTI classes (similar to Virtual Classes) 4 Choose skill for intervention strategy 5 Use probes & monitor weekly 6 Review progress with 5 to 8 probes & change intervention, based on probe target 7 Next Benchmark test to compare to target.

Step 1: Compare Growth of all to each RTI student Example student comparison to Group: Ex: Allen J: 1300, 1335 Class Avg.: 1425, 1485 Line and gray boxes are average growth. Small Red boxes are growing more slowly; green are growing more quickly than the average. Large boxes show proficiency the same on both tests

Step 2: Set Benchmark Target (Use Growth values already identified) Discovery tool allows team to see distance to “close the gap” Example: Class Avg.: 1425, 1485 J Allen: 1300, /

Step 3: Assign students Step 4: Identify Intervention & Skill to be monitored Keep Notes: RTI students are identified. A note field is available to list intervention and notes for target setting. Probe selected: Select students and option below appears

Step 5: Select Math Probe/Monitor Weekly Select Fluency Probe: Math: includes ‘expected goal by grade’ as guide to RTI team. Team may select “State-Specific” Curricular Probe as alternate

Step 5: Select Reading Probe/Monitor Weekly Select Fluency Probe: Read: includes ‘expected goal by grade’ as guide to RTI team. Team may select “State-Specific” Curricular Probe as alternate

Step 6: Review Progress with data by student over 5 to 8 probes Green line is “Expected Goal or ‘norm’ for this specific Probe”. Red line is “Student Goal” set by team. Yellow line is actual student results with a trend line for team to compare to Student Goal & Expected Goal

Step 7: Mock up of Data Entry/ Student Report Set up new probe Pop up window of Progress Monitoring where student data is being entered. Trend line adjusts as data is entered.
