HoKaZo The Animal Shelter By Kennedy Block

Introduction Luckily all animals are treated well in HoKaZo. I chose this subject because I like to help give some animals a second chance in life. This is a photo of a 3-legged cat who just got an amputation. But, having 3 legs is better that dying.
What is HoKaZo? HoKaZo is an animal shelter that rescues all animals and does absolutely NO EUTHANIZATIONS! It opens 8:30a.m. and closes at 4:00p.m. They need donations of food, bowls, toys, cleaning supplies, litter, blankets and money.
What I do I go with my dad almost every Saturday if we can make it. We wake up early, have breakfast and head out! This is my first omelet I ever made for my dad. This is my dad.
What I do When we get to the shelter we go to a couple of cat rooms to clean. Here are the steps we do to clean the rooms: First, We bond with the cats and get to know them.
What I do Second, we take everything out of the room. For most cats, this is probably their least favorite part!
What I do Next, we sweep and I clean and refill food and water dishes. Then, me and my dad scoop and refill the litter boxes. There are outdoor enclosures that branch off of indoor rooms. This is me scooping litter.
What I do Finally, we move everything back in and play with the cats! There are usually a lot of new cats and kittens in March, April and May.
Animals Some cats I remember very well. Here are few I’d like to share. This is a cat named D.J. He was adopted from the shelter and then abandoned. He was found again and taken back to HoKaZo. Right now, he has an infection in his cheek so he rubs it a lot. That is why he doesn’t have whiskers on the left side of his face.
Animals This cat’s name is Gale. In this picture, he very recently got his leg amputated. At my most recent visit to the shelter, I found out that he got adopted! I’m glad because he was really sweet to me even when he got beat up by the other cats in the room.
What I learned I learned how many lives one shelter can save. At one point, they had well over 300 cats! I also got some experience that will help me take care of my new cat (which I am getting from HoKaZo), and I now take care of my family’s cat, Cleo.
Quiz Time! What was the name of the cat who got his leg amputated? What is the most cats in the shelter (in the time I’ve volunteered there)? What is the first thing I do to clean the rooms? What is the name of my cat?
