The School of Civil Engineering & Architecture (SCE) was founded in Its predecessor was the Department of Construction of the Beijing Railway College founded in Through 50 years’ development, SCEA has become a comprehensive school with 7 departments and 2 research centers. <<Education There are 2 undergraduate programs, 25 graduate programs, 15 doctoral programs and 3 post- doctoral programs. According to 2011 statistics, SCE has 2,847 registered students, including 1,577 undergraduates, 837 postgraduates for master’s degree of engineering, and 370doctorate candidates. SCE has undertaken the task of education for international students and in-service employees.

Research

In the past few years, SCE has reached remarkable achievements in research, awards, and papers. SCE carries out hundreds of projects from the National Science Foundation, Ministry of science and technology, and Ministry of Railways. Among these projects, many have obtained national and provincial prizes and awards. << Reach and Achievements

SCE has gained reputation in the fields of engineering survey design, engineering supervision, science & technological consultation, dynamic & static experiments and inspections of structures. The number of research projects sponsored by enterprises has been considerably increasing. The total scientific research fund amounted 45.5 million in And many research results have been applied to the infrastructure construction of the country. << Reach and Achievements

Cooperation and Exchange

<<International Cooperation and Exchange SCE has engaged in a world-wide international academic exchanges and established wide-spread cooperative relations with the United States, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Japan, Russia, Singapore, Korea, Australia and other countries, and also the regions like Hong Kong and Taiwan, through expert exchanges, research co-operations and international conferences.

<<International Cooperation and Exchange In the past five years, more than 40 faculties have been abroad to participate in the international conferences, and 30 to do research or give lectures. More than 80 foreign scholars have been invited for academic exchanges or to deliver lectures in SCE. In addition, many faculties have become the committee members of some international organizations or conferences, or the chairman of some sub-committees.

Cooperative Institute Cooperative agreements have been signed with 6 universities, including University of Nevada -Reno, Florida International University, Israel Institute of Technology, Politecnico di Milano, University of Missouri –Columbia, and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. In the past three years, a total number of 94 students have attended exchange programs or international programs.

Overseas Students A total number of 14 overseas students are studying in SCE in 2012, in pursuit of master degree or doctoral degree. 23 international students from five countries and regions participated in the 2012 International Summer Camp held by SCE.
